This technical page provides detailed information about the design, materials, suppliers, and certification requirements for these critical components used in aviation fuel systems.
About Sterling Type Couplings
Introducing Flextech's SelfVent™ Couplings, a sterling type compatible coupling . These hydrant couplings stand as a testament to meticulous engineering, providing an indispensable solution for optimising fuel hydrant low points and vent points. Operating seamlessly under extreme conditions, these couplings uphold the highest standards of safety and efficiency, ensuring a flawless fuel transfer process. Engineered for use with Aviation Kerosene (Jet A-1) and Air BP approved.
Details about our SelfVent™ Sterling Type Couplings
Design and Material:
SelfVent™ hydrant couplings are engineered to meet the demanding standards of aviation fuel systems. Key design features include:
- Suitable for an ASME B16.5 Class 150 system.
- Available in 1.5" and 0.5" sizes, with 1.5" couplings featuring a pressure release/equalising feature.
- Manufactured from high-quality Stainless Steel with Viton A or equivalent Seals.
- Not containing Zinc, Copper, or other yellow metals in the wetted parts, ensuring compatibility with Aviation Kerosene (Jet A-1).
- AirBP Approved
Packaging and Shipment:
To ensure the safe delivery of couplings, all components are meticulously packaged to avoid transit damage. Each item is weatherproofed and labeled with supplier and purchaser details, including order numbers and references.
Certification:
We take quality seriously, and each coupling is accompanied by the following certifications:
- Manufacturer's Standard Certification
- Certificate of Conformity
- Individual Pressure Test Certificate (Each coupling undergoes pressure testing up to 29 barg or the maximum flange rating, ensuring reliability under varying conditions).
This specification outlines the requirements for 0.5" Pull-Break and 1.5" Pressure-Release Pull-Break Self-Sealing SelfVent™ Sterling Type Couplings. These couplings are specifically engineered for aviation fuel hydrant vents and low point drains. By adhering to this specification, you can ensure the safe and efficient operation of your fuel distribution system.

No. off | Sterling Part No. | Flextech Part No. | Description |
---|---|---|---|
either 1 | 5N 102184 | 9750-PE-FBC112 | 1.5" Flanged ANSI Class 150 RF Probe |
or 1 | 5N 103021 | 9750-PE-FBC116 | 1.5" Flanged DIN DN16 Class 150 RF Probe |
1 | 5N 102228 | 9750-JETA1-CAP-DN40 | 1.5" Dust Cap |
1 | 5N 102185 | 9750-PA-FCC112 | 1.5" Carrier BSPP with threaded female (hose end requires 1.5” BSPT threaded male male - not part of order) |
Sterling 1.5" Probe coupling Part No. 5N 102184 is a modified coupling that includes a small poppet bleed valve assembly which releases locked-in fuel hydrant pressure sufficiently to reduce coupling force and allow hand coupling on pressurised hydrant systems. Whilst other manufacturers make similarly rated pull-break couplings they do not have the Sterling "pressure release" feature and hence cannot be coupled by hand at hydrant pressure.
However, T9750 Self Venting Quick Release Couplings produced by Flextech have been evaluated for compatibility with the Sterling couplings by HHOpCo and have been assessed as manufacturing to the same standard and quality. AirBP Approved.
